Smokey Joe’s more than just a bar.

Nine years ago this August Mac came up with an idea of calling the new Cigar Bar and Sports Lounge, located in the heart of BJ’s building complex, Smokey Joe’s, after the Legend of Smokey Joe’s Lair.** The name stuck and has grown in fame over the years, becoming known in our region as a real part of the Cigar World’s networking culture. Cigar Clubs from all over meet here at Smokey Joe’s.

Mac asked Vickie what a “ Short Story” was and she said “Is that a book? “  Mac said no it is a Fuentes’ Cigar, with that introduction into the world of Cigars Vickie became the Manager of Smokey Joe’s. She believes in creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the Sports Bar and Lounge. Bartenders and wait staff are very professional. You can kick back have a cocktail or beverage and smoke your cigar. A bar for business and professional people to be welcomed into, every client is treated as a V.I.P.

You can bring your laptop, wifi is available, and get your work done in a homey, comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, as it is quieter in the day time.

The lights go down in the evenings with several TVs showing a variety of games. Low key music or an occasional movie plays in the bar.

Recently renovated to add 1800 square feet of space, new men’s and ladies restrooms, increased seating of approximately 35, including a covered, open deck with comfy wicker furniture.

The star of the new expansion is the New Large Glass Walk In Humidor. Another Tobaconist has been added to the staff for a total of 3 Tobaconists that are available for clients.

BJ's Has An App For That!

BJ’s has just made it easier for you to stay connected with every department at BJ’s, every day.
The brand new BJ’s Bingo & Gaming app is now on the Apple app store and Google play store and available to download.
The app features all of BJ’s current specials and events information from each department as well as all current jackpot information.  You’ll be seeing more QR codes around the hall as we offer more QR Specials in the app for your scanning pleasure.  Planning to attend our next big event, let everyone know in the Event Attendance tab and leave your comments and photos for others to enjoy. 
App users will also receive Alert Notifications, of special interest, right on your mobile device. Apple devices receive these as text messages, these messages on android devices can be found in the Message Center tab.  These messages will include notification of extra large jackpots, instant specials, open/close weather info, etc.  There is also a ‘Share’ button right on the home page to share the app with family and friends.

Completely Enclosed Non Smoking Slot Room

Wow! Improvements are changing the player’s experience at BJ’s!

Our latest addition for your playing pleasure is a completely enclosed Non Smoking Multi Media Slot Room!

That’s right, now you can enjoy playing your favorite games in a spacious smoke free playing area. Comfortable new blue chairs with an adjustable lever for height, plus a Beverage Service enclosed within the room for Soda’s and Coffee Service.

There is a separate Entrance/Exit door, which will keep you out of the Smoking areas. Handicap Parking is just outside the Entrance/Exit door along with additional parking across from the Entrance. There is easy access for Walkers and Wheelchairs with the low incline ramp leading up to the Entrance.

For your convenience, Cashiers will come in frequently to see if anyone would like to cash out without leaving the smoke free area. Future plans may include a new ATM, right inside the Non Smoking Room.

BJ’s Speed is getting ready for the soft opening in our new location in the center of the building complex on June 24^th in the evening at 5:00 PM.

$20,000 Donation to the FIFE food Bank!

One of the goals of BJ’s is to give back to the community in which we do business.  What better way than to provide support to the Fife food bank.  Today Fred, Marie and Pat, board members for the fife food bank are here to accept our donation.   One of our goals for the past few years has been to provide monetary support to the fife food bank so that they can provide food to individuals in need and the fife food bank accomplishes that goal with compassion, dignity and respect.  This $20,000 donation is  ultimately given by our players.  Thanks to ALL of our our Loyal Players!!!

Improvements Through The Years

BJ’s Bingo is always improving the playing experience for our customers. Improvements range from renovations of the building to creating comfortable space for our clients.

Our Food and Beverage Department alone has changed from offering a simple menu of hot dogs, popcorn, sodas and coffee at a little tiny counter to a full service menu.

Thirty four years ago the menu was simple, as time passed we added homemade p-nut butter and chocolate chip cookies and pineapple upside down cake to the menu.

At one point they closed down for kitchen renovations. While closed down they made sandwiches on bingo tables before the doors opened and had snacks like jerky and chips for our hungry bingo players.

Anne Haus was hired to work in the kitchen and potato salad and hot soup was added to the menu.  Later on Edna Cooper started cooking breakfasts, and burgers and fries were added to the cold sandwiches and hotdogs.

John and Hayward began to cook and they started making specials of the day, homemade soups and expanding the menu with more variety.

When we did our last major renovation many things changed in the food and beverage department. A full service kitchen with a steam table and salad bar, as well as a pizza oven and grills and deep fryers in the kitchen created an expansion of delectable choices for our customers.

We also added such wonderful food areas as the Candy Bar offering delicious treats and lattes as well as having a fully stocked bar.

Did I mention bar? We have 4 bar locations at BJ’s The Candy Bar, The Bison Bar, Smokey Joe’s Cigar Bar and Lounge, and the Casino Bar.

BJ’s has always offered hot dogs on the menu, why? Simply because they are a favorite of the founder of our company, BJ herself.

We still sell an all beef hotdog for only $2.75 with all the condiments you need. If you like yours a bit fancier you can get a polish dog or a jalapeno dog for just $3.00.

So the next time you plan to come down and try your luck at BJ’s, remember you can do it all here in one location, dinner and a cocktail, a game of bingo, dessert and espresso, and Slots or Speed Bingo, or you can relax up in Smokey Joe’s Cigar Bar and Lounge.

Building Progress!

 

BJ’s is in the midst of a very exciting renovation!

One of the renovations is to make an enlarged seating area for Smokey Joe’s Cigar Bar and Lounge. Additionally there will be an open air balcony. One exciting new feature will be a walk in Cigar Humidifier!

We are also creating a new location for Speed Bingo to be played. There will be a more intimate setting in the new Speed room. We will go from 48 seats down to 40 seats. We have two great improvements to enhance the player’s experience; a better HVAC system and an improved sound system.

Speed Bingo will soon be located more in the center of our building complex. By moving Speed Bingo to the center, that will open up the room it previously occupied to become a smoke free Slot room.

Having a completely smoke free zone for Slot Style gaming will be a great addition for our players.

This is the seventh renovation that BJ’s has undergone, all renovations have been done to enhance the player’s experience and to better accommodate customer’s needs.

New Player Unit System Coming Soon

 

We are always striving to improve our customer’s experience here at BJ’s Bingo. One of our recent ideas has been to look at a new program called Hedge that could replace the program in the players units.

After much research and testing we decided to invite 50 players to play a special Hedge testing session and let us know what they thought of the new graphics and how it played. We asked them to fill out a quick questionnaire after the short session. We had 16 players who found that there were playing issues for them with the new system, and 34 players really loved it.

Our 50 invitees for the most part, enjoyed playing on the new screens, but did not appreciate the new “Vegas Style” calling method that the system worked with. We have now found another way to give them the great graphics, and by removing the ball being called from the players screen we could continue to call the way we always have. We are waiting now to make sure that every issue is resolved perfectly and will continue to test before we can determine if it is in the player’s best interest to make the change.

News Flash on the changes we made to our bingo sessions December 1^st is that our players love it! They like the fact that all of the sessions are sold at the same prices except Saturday night when all the games pay $1000, and our once a month exciting Cosmic Session.  The consistency in the buy in makes it so much easier for people to purchase quickly and have more time for fun!

Our new Double Action Jackpot game is a very popular addition to our game schedule. The Jackpot starts at $2000 in 32 numbers. The Jackpot increases each session, when the Jackpot reaches $10,000 is when we begin to progress the numbers each session until the Jackpot is won. We started this new Jackpot the first of December, since then the Double Action Jackpot has been won 8 times! No wonder it is such a popular Jackpot game.

A Big 34th Anniversary Thank You to Our Loyal Players!

 

For the last 34 years, it has been the mission of BJ’s to provide the best bingo experience for our players anywhere, in a happy, safe and comfortable environment. It is a continuing process for us to ensure this goal is met. Just this past year, for the comfort of our players in the slot room, brand new, very comfortable, adjustable chairs were placed in front of every machine. Also, for the health

of our players and employees, a new smoke system was installed in the smoking areas to reduce smoke levels. Also, to continue to ensure that all players feel safe and secure in and around our facility, new uniformed security was added in the slot room and parking areas . Also, to maintain our facility to the standards our players have come to expect, all new carpet and padding was installed

throughout the building.

 

Now we are looking forward to future plans for 2014. Expansion plans call for a brand new speed bingo room and a non-smoking slot room. Both of these rooms are currently being added to the front of the building and should be completed later this year. We will also be introducing a new Member Loyalty card in the slot room to keep track of your play and offer bonus points that can be

exchanged for gifts, food, bingo and more. This is just one way for BJ’s to enhance the ‘happy’ environment we are known for by rewarding you for the time you spend with us. We very much appreciate it.

Finally, patterns, programs and promotions change, but 4 guiding principles remain the same at BJ’s & always will: Trustworthiness, Transparency, Great Customer Service and The Biggest Payouts for the Money...Anywhere! Happy 34th to all of us!
